Fixing the foundations before peak season
Reserve Wines, a North West based independent wine retailer, approached us with a familiar problem. Strong products. Loyal customers. But organic search was underperforming at the worst possible time.
Q4 loomed and, as such, the key buying and gifting season.
They did not need a rebrand. They did not need noise.
They needed their organic search to do the heavy lifting.

The challenge
The site had drifted.
Core technical issues limited crawl efficiency. Key commercial pages lacked clarity. Search visibility was inconsistent, with rankings sitting outside the positions that drive meaningful traffic.
At the same time, attribution was opaque. Tracking gaps meant performance data could not be fully trusted, limiting confidence in wider marketing decisions.
The brief was simple. Fix what matters. Do it quickly. Make it count before Q4.
The approach
We focused on impact over volume.
Technical SEO reset
We addressed crawl inefficiencies, indexation gaps, and structural issues that diluted authority across the site.
On-page alignment
Category and product pages were reworked to match real search intent. Titles, internal linking, and content hierarchy were tightened to improve relevance and depth.
Search demand mapping
We prioritised commercially valuable queries, ensuring key pages aligned with how customers actually search for wine online.
Server-side tracking implementation
We deployed server-side tracking (SST) to replace unreliable client-side attribution. This created a far clearer view of channel performance and user behaviour.
Low-friction wins
We identified and executed changes that could move rankings within weeks, not months.
No bloat. No distractions. Just the work that drives visibility and clarity.
The results
Comparing September to November against the previous three months:
– Clicks increased from 9.3K to 12.7K (+36%)
– Average position improved from 28.4 to 18.3
– CTR increased from 0.6% to 0.9%
– Impressions remained stable, but visibility shifted into higher-value positions
Alongside this, the introduction of server-side tracking transformed attribution. Channels could be properly evaluated, leading to more confident and effective digital marketing decisions beyond SEO.

What this means
Reserve Wines entered Q4 with a site that could compete.
Better rankings. Stronger visibility. Clearer data.
Not from chasing trends. From fixing the fundamentals.
A repeatable model for specialist retailers
This approach works because most specialist eCommerce sites have the same hidden problem.
They are not broken. They are just misaligned.
For businesses selling coffee, wine subscriptions, or other considered products, the opportunity is often already there. It is just buried beneath technical debt and poor measurement.
Fix the foundations and the gains follow.
